Clients and Households

Every person you serve is either a client or a contact, and both live inside a household. For how these fit into the bigger picture, see Key Concepts.

  • Client — a person with their own record who receives services. A client can be the Head of Household or a regular member.
  • Contact — a non-client member of a household (for example a spouse, a child, or extended family). Contacts are recorded for context; they don’t have their own service record.
  • Household — the group a client and their contacts belong to. It has its own location and a count of adults and children. A household has exactly one Head of Household (HoH), and minors are flagged as such.

Open a client’s profile and find the household summary near the top. From Manage Household Members you can:

  • Add a contact — a non-client member. You’ll enter their name, household role, and date of birth (date of birth is required so the system can tell members apart).
  • Add a client — search for an existing client and add them to the household. Selecting a result adds them immediately.
  • Swap Head of Household — change which member is the HoH.
  • Move or remove members.
  • View household history — toggle between Current members and History to see past members and reactivate someone if needed.
